To all MIUI lovers out there, it’s good news! Xiaomi has finally confirmed dates of when they’ll be releasing their new MIUI 8.
From 11th July 2016: Xiaomi will start progressively releasing their MIUI 8 beta version globally. From 16th August 2016: Xiaomi will start progressively releasing their MIUI 8 Stable ROM globally.
Preview of the OS
Xiaomi states MIUI 8 is a complete redesign of the OS from the bottom up; the idea is to simplify everything for usage in daily activities.
Some of the key features include:
Dual Account system – This will allow the phone to run 2 completely independent accounts; with their own background apps and data usage. MIUI also supports dual apps, which means you can now run two separate whatsapp accounts in the same phone!
Also user’s can choose to merge their address book and few other features between the accounts.
Built-in Caller ID – MIUI 8 comes with a built-in caller ID based on MIUI built-in database. By partnering with popular services like Zomato, Domino’s, Swiggy etc. You will now be able to instantly identify any commercial calls. You can also label any calls which are spam, so that other users can know.
Themes – Xiaomi conducted India’s first ever theme competition from 1st December 2015 to 28th May 2016, where over 369 themes were submitted with over 6.5 million downloads. Designers walked away with many attractive prizes; and MIUI users now have one of the best themes portfolio to choose what style they prefer for their devices.
Calculator – MIUI 8 also comes with a powerful calculator+ app, which has added features of being able to do currency conversions to conversions of SI units among other things.
Scrolling Screenshot – Came across a good article on web? Want to take screenshots of it? To cover the entire article you would need to take at least 3-4 screenshots. Now with scrolling screenshot, MIUI 8 takes care of it automatically. You can even crop, doodle the screenshot before sharing it with your friends.
Gallery – MIUI 8 comes with a new gallery app which supports features like display of landscape panorama pictures to swipe-up a picture to share it.
You also get Mi cloud syncing which allows you to free up your devices storage space. It also comes equipped with a video editor which has a lot of fun “video effects features” like filters, background music and text etc. Xiaomi has worked hard to make this one of the best gallery app available today.
MIUI 8 colour redesign – MIUI 8 comes with a kaleidoscope of colours, fonts, animations and other improvements, which gives the OS a fresh and energetic vibe.
MIUI 8 Supported Phones
The MIUI 8 Developer ROM supported devices are Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4c, Mi 4S, Mi 5 and Mi Max. The company says that the entire Redmi range and Mi Note series will be supported by MIUI 8 Developer ROM.
Conclusion
MIUI 8 looks like a fresh and exciting redesign. We await their release to test them in person. With lot of new features on offer, MIUI 8 seems all set to become the best MIUI design yet.
