OnePlus 3 Review

OnePlus 3 – The flagship which threatens other flagship phones?
OnePlus has finally released their flagship phone of the year. And keeping in line with their company ethos of “high specs at low price”; they’ve hit the mark this time!
Design
One of the con of previous OnePlus devices was it’s plastic body; which they’ve corrected with OnePlus 3. Now coming in a uni-body space-grade aluminum alloy, the OnePlus 3 looks the part, when compared with other premium phones. Sharp lines are balanced with soft curves to give that perfect grip. And at just 7.3 mm OnePlus 3 now ranks amongst the thinnest phones available.
One of the interesting feature is the “Exclusive Alert Slider”. Placed at the top-left corner, it is a physical slider which can be toggled between 3 customization settings – all notifications, priority notifications & Silent. Which means – No more needing to switch on the screen to change your phone settings, it’s just a slide away!
OnePlus 3 also features a fingerprint scanner for security. OnePlus 3 claim that their fingerprint reader is quicker than Apple’s touch ID, which I’m inclined to agree with them. It functions quick and smoothly.
Oxygen OS and Technology
OnePlus 3 software is based on Google Android 6.01 Marshmallow with it’s own Oxygen OS interface on top of it. The first thing to observe about it, is it’s clean, simple and comfortable to use UI. Unless you scrutinize closely, it mostly resembles stock android OS(which is a good thing in my book). And another good aspect is it’s minimalist bloatware.
There is of course some customization, like being able to switch between which bottom physical key does what (so if you want “back” key to be on the right side, you can have it now). And screen gesture, which lets you view few apps like clock on the screen in black and white, if you wave your hand over the phone screen.
One of the more prominent feature is Shelf. Just swipe right from home screen and shelf is there for you, with everything you need. Most called contacts to most used apps and notes. Shelf is your one stop place for almost everything you use daily in your phone.
Coming to the hardware side of things: OnePlus 3 definitely packs a punch!
Fitted with the new Snapdragon 820 processor, Adreno 530 for GPU and 6 GB of RAM, OnePlus 3 is scoring big in all available speed tests. The display isn’t a quadHD but a vivid 5.5 optic AMOLED display does make OnePLus 3 a good screen with wide angles of viewing. Everything is crisp and sharp, with OnePlus fine-tuning the blacks and red, which they tell makes images look better.
OnePlus 3 also offers nano dual-sim option, which means more connectivity. On the whole, in terms of software and hardware, OnePlus 3 certainly ticks all the right boxes!
Camera
Equipped with a 16 MP camera, OnePlus 3 promises to give it’s best camera performance yet. OnePlus 3’s exclusive Smart capture technology makes taking the perfect photo just a click away. Electronic(EIS) and optical(OIS) stabilization technologies along with Dynamic de-noising technology work in harmony to ensure the videos and pictures taken are smooth and crisp. OnePlus 3 also offers a manual mode for the more professional photography enthusiasts, which lets you fine-tune the ISO, exposure, focus and more. The OnePlus 3 also supports raw image files for expert post-shot editing.
On the front camera side, OnePlus 3 is equipped with a 8 MP camera which they tell is as good as iPhone 5S primary camera(which isn’t a bad claim). With selfies being so popular today, OnePlus 3 has included smile capture technology with it’s front camera. So you just need to look at the camera and smile, and your selfie is clicked!
Dash Charge
OnePlus 3 comes with Dash Charger, it’s own fast charging option. With the slogan “Less time in the socket and more time in the pocket” Dash charger certainly seems to deliver high speed charging.
The phone is charging 60%+ in just 30 mins, making it one of the, if not the fastest charging adapter in the market today. One of the interesting things about the adapter is, the cooling options of generating so much electricity is done in the adapter itself, so less heat reaches the phone. This feature certainly adds another positive element to OnePlus 3.
Conclusion
Understated but premium design, high spec hardware, smooth performance of oxygen OS, decent camera and dash charging. OnePlus 3 has ticked all the right boxes; on the whole, nearly matching steps with almost all the flagship phones in the market today. That too in half the price!
OnePlus 3 is certainly the best economic priced premium phone available today.
